The bold part and the swept-over height are the base of the look, and the two lines near the neck add a unique twist. Naturally curly hair often takes on a life of its own, but by keeping it cut short, it’s possible to gain more control over your locks. This fantastic style incorporates a bit of length on top that gradually fades to skin right at the nape.

There are many ways to style a quiff, but this undercut fade is the most popular since it works so well for a variety of hair types and lengths. The undercut keeps styling simple while drawing the eye to the texture and touchable flow on top. Use a product that offers up some hold to keep the volume, but be sure that it still allows for some movement at the same time. The clean-cut side part is making a huge comeback, especially when paired with a skin fade.

For upkeep, request short sides with low or high fades, and keep the top hair long for a full and textured look. An expert tip for an improved look is to slightly taper the back of the hair. How to easily create amazing Interactive Excel Dashboards

how to design a graph in excel

If you have more than two lines of data to adjust, you can also rearrange them in ascending or descending order. To do this, highlight all of your data in the cells above your chart, click Data, and select Sort, as shown below. The steps to build a chart or graph in Excel are relatively simple. I encourage you to follow the step-by-step instructions below or download them as PDFs if that’s more efficient for you.

Step 4. Shop for your chart.

In this post, you’ll learn exactly how to create a graph in Excel and improve your visuals and reporting…but first let’s talk about charts. Understanding exactly how charts play out in Excel will help with understanding graphs in Excel. Excel users can leverage the power of visuals without any additional extensions. You can create a graph or chart right inside Excel rather than exporting it into some other tool.

More Pro Chart Tips

how to design a graph in excel

By following these steps, you’ll be able to create various types of graphs, including bar, line, pie charts, and more. These visual aids will help you interpret your data better and make your presentations or reports much more compelling. Excel offers a large library of charts and graphs types to display your data. While multiple chart types might work for a given data set, you should select the chart that best fits the story that the data is telling. The tutorial explains the Excel charts basics and provides the detailed guidance on how to make a graph in Excel. You will also learn how to combine two chart types, save a graph as chart template, change the default chart type, resize and move the graph.

Resizing the chart in Excel

For most Excel chart types, the newly created graph is inserted with the default Chart Title placeholder. In this case, the title of your Excel graph will be updated automatically every time you edit the linked cell. Excel chart template sites offer a wide variety of pre-designed chart templates that can be easily customized to suit your data. These templates simplify the process of data visualization by aiding in the creation of professional-looking charts with just a few clicks. They save time, increase productivity, and empower users to present their data in a compelling way that connects with their audience.

Empower your people to go above and beyond with a flexible platform designed to match the needs of your team — and adapt as those needs change. If you find it easier to work with a graph on a separate sheet, you can move it there in the following way. There are optimization choices to make along the way to best fit your data and audience. Most of the buttons and functions you'll see and read are very similar across all versions of Excel. Scatter charts show the positive or negative relationship between two variables.

Then, copy it and paste it to the row below so there are two identical data series. Sometimes if you do not assign the right data type to your columns in the first step, the graph may not show in a way that you want it to. For example, Excel may plot the parameter Average Number of Leaves/Employee/Year along the X axis instead of the Year. A chart is comprised of different chart elements, such as axes, gridlines, data labels, title and so on. If you're looking for a great way to visualize data in Microsoft Excel, you can create a graph or chart.

Armed with this basic knowledge, let's see how you can modify different chart elements to make your Excel graph look exactly the way you'd like it to look. Sometimes, you may need to adjust the data selection or switch to a different type of graph for better clarity. Selecting your data correctly is crucial because Excel will use this selection to determine what to include in the graph. Make sure you include the rows and columns that are relevant to what you want to represent.

This dropdown also lets you switch between all your chart elements when you want to format them one by one. Click on the dropdown and you will see a list of all your active chart elements. You also have the ability to switch what appears on the x (horizontal) axis and y (vertical) axis by clicking the Switch Row/Column button in the Select Data Source dialog box. There will be cases where you will need to add a new data series into the chart. When working with bar of column charts, there are 2 important Series Options you want to be aware of.

Step 1: Enter Data into a Worksheet

To quickly change the style of the existing graph in Excel, click the Chart Styles button on the right of the chart and scroll down to see the other style offerings. To hide the legend, click the Chart Elements button in the upper-right corner of the chart and uncheck the Legend box. When you create a chart in Excel, the default legend appears at the bottom of the chart, and to the right of the chart in Excel 2010 and earlier versions. To revert back to the original number formatting (the way the numbers are formatted in your worksheet), check the Linked to source box. For immediate access to the relevant Format Chart pane options, double click the corresponding element in the chart. Using the Chart Tools, you can modify the graph’s design, layout, and formatting.

You can move the chart to any location on the sheet by dragging it with the mouse. Clicking the Manage Templates button will open the Charts folder with all existing templates. Right click on the template you want to remove and choose Delete in the context menu. Please keep in mind that only the templates that were saved to the Charts folder appear in the Templates folder in Excel. So, make sure you don't change the default destination folder when saving a template. In Excel 2013 and higher, you can click the Recommended Charts button to view a gallery of pre-configured graphs that best match the selected data.

What is a Floor Truss Types, Benefits, & Usage

floor truss design

Likewise, bearings can be beams, ledgers, headers, or posts made from any of the above-mentioned materials. Regardless, the bearing must be strong enough to support the loads transferred from the trusses above. If the bearing material is not strong enough, crushing can occur when the truss is under designed loads. This results in serviceability issues like cracked sheetrock and dips in ceilings above and floors below.

Additional Resources

Factors that determine the size of the top chord include on-center spacing, dead and live loads applied to the truss, span, and pitch applied to the top chord. In addition to the top chord and webs, the bottom chord is used to transfer forces to the truss bearings. For traditionally spaced trusses, the bottom chord is cut out of 2x4 or 2x6 dimension lumber but can also be cut out of 2x8, 2x10, 2x12, and even LVL material for roof trusses. Factors that determine the size of the bottom chord include on-center spacing, dead loads applied to the truss, span, and if there is any pitch applied to the bottom chord. An example of this is a vaulted ceiling application framed by scissors trusses. In some cases a live load can be applied to a bottom chord, either for storage purposes or if there will be movement within the truss, such is the case in an attic truss.

Trimjoist’s in-house engineering staff is always on hand to assist contractors, architects and building designers in plan conversion and design layout. They provide detailed floor-framing plans and precise material lists for each project, which ensures the trusses are shipped and installed right the first time. Plus, joists are more likely to crack, twist, and bounce than floor trusses. Once the plan is created, the floor trusses are designed to fit the allocated space.

Building Code Challenges:

Our trusses provide more design flexibility, inside and out, than conventional framing. Offering numerous custom design options, our trusses present an economical and structurally superior method for rapid erection. Floor trusses can have 16”, 19.2”, and 24” spacing based on the size of the floor, the applied load, and truss strength. This truss is common in residential buildings with spans ranging from 65 to 330 feet, where gravity loads dominate.

What Is the Difference Between Floor Trusses and Joists?

The carpenters will construct the floor trusses, so they leave the designated space between the top and bottom chords. While floor trusses are not always necessary, they can speed up installation time for plumbing, HVAC, and electrical systems. One of the considerations for building a house, storage, or other structure with flooring is whether to include floor trusses as part of the build. RedBuilt Open-Web Trusses offer a variety of solutions for a broad range of challenges. These strong, light and highly customizable Open-Web Trusses add design flexibility for owners/developers to create market-specific and relevant spaces.

This is the most common type of chord-bearing condition in floor trusses and is designed to sit on top of bearing walls. Other trusses can also be used to support adjacent trusses connected at some type of angle, usually 90 degrees with a metal connector joist or truss hanger. In some instances with very light loads, trusses can be nailed together to act as a bearing condition. The bearing supporting the girder truss is most likely to suffer from the crushing effects mentioned above. I-joists have a top and bottom chord, like trusses, but the space is filled chiefly with ½” or 5/8’ plywood.

Keyed Bearing or Shared Bearing details allow two different floor trusses to share the same interior bearing and stay aligned, eliminating the need to stagger or overlap the two trusses. Sheathing installation is much easier because the supporting trusses line up, significantly reducing the need to cut special sheathing pieces to complete the subfloor. The result is a cleaner detail with full bearing while reducing labor and material usage. Floor trusses and joists are used to support weight and provide structural support.

Therefore, diagonal members in Pratt trusses are made of lighter and thinner steel. This certification program comprised of SBCA programs to provide component manufacturers with methods to implement the industry’s best practices. With that complete, the truss is lifted and placed for shipment to its destination. In addition, the short nature of the lumber used in the trusses means less warping, twisting, or shrinking. Receive a weekly newsletter on component manufacturing news from SBC Magazine.

Solutions with Floor Trusses

Anderson Truss Company Inc. floor trusses are widely known for reliable performance. We use strict guidelines to ensure a quality floor system with properly placed duct chases, bearing points, and special loads. Wooden floor trusses cost around $4 to 5 per square foot, whereas steel trusses for large projects cost $10 to $15 per square foot. A project must have heavy loads or spans for a floor truss to be included in the design.

Furthermore, trusses are made using exceptionally quality lumber, which minimizes the risk of shrinkage, warping, and twisting, reducing maintenance costs. Moreover, they are easier to work with and provide a nailing surface of about 3.5”, greater than the 2.5” surface offered by most I-joists. For instance, a wooden truss can span up to 30 feet, which is much greater than a traditional joist. They also allow for the construction of longer spans, are reusable, and require less labor to install. Howe trusses are more popular than Pratt trusses because of their superior load-dissipating capabilities.

Floor joists come in many sizes, but they usually range from 2 x 8’ to 2 x 12’. Sometimes, they can also be 2 x 6’, although these sizes are not very common and are mostly seen in older homes. The TrimJoist® can be quickly incorporated into any house plan and is the first step to a floor system with superior quality and superior support.

It is the horizontal distance between two exterior bearings and is typically the width of the structure. Special attention should be taken not to confuse any cantilever portion of the truss with its span. For example, if the walls of the structure are spaced 24’ apart and the truss has a 4’ cantilever on one side, the overall truss length would be 28’ with a span of 24’ and a 4’ cantilever. Truss span can vary widely from as small as 1’ (or smaller if necessary) to over 100’ in length.

With floor trusses, you can simply run equipment through the webbing or provide horizontal chases in the trusses to provide the space needed. Wood is in fact a renewable resource, affordable, easy to work with, and provides enough strength for most projects. Wood products range from commodity lumber (2x4s, 2x6s, etc.), engineered lumber, (LVLs, Plywood, etc.), and pre-fab trusses. In today’s blog, we discuss floor trusses and what benefits they offer to both single-family homes and multi-family projects. These bearings need to be supported by an adequate support structure downward though the wall to any floor systems below and into the foundation system of the structure. Floor trusses are the solution to many floor framing challenges presented in today's complex and sophisticated building designs.

Having your design team involved in the process can save thousands in on-site repair. Webs are typically cut with many angles on each end to allow for a tight fit at the joint. Linear saws are able to quickly cut differing webs out of one piece of lumber thereby minimizing waste. Component saws are utilized to cut high volumes of webs of the same configuration out of a fixed length board using 5 or 6 saw heads. Pull saws, either manual or semi-automated, are used to cut a variety of parts including webs in low quantities. Common trusses are typically designed with symmetrical webs to reduce the number of saw setups and make the overall truss fabrication process less complicated.

Famous Tv and Movie Houses in Los Angeles That Are A Must See

who.is verna in the fall of the house of usher

Roderick sees her, looking down at him and wearing a raven mask, at the joint funeral for Victorine (T'Nia Miller), Tammy (Samantha Sloyan), and Frederick (Henry Thomas), the last of his six children to die gruesome deaths. Throughout all eight episodes, she haunts Roderick, Madeline, and Roderick's children in the lead-ups to their deaths. It's through this framework—Roderick telling stories to Dupin—that we learn just about everything that has happened to the present point. We learn about the violent and untimely deaths of each of Roderick's children—whether from Annabel Lee (Katie Parker) or "bastards"—and how in every case, it was their own failings that led to their demise.

Who Is Verna? 'The Fall Of The House Of Usher' Character And Ending, Explained

Be sure to check back to see what else gets added to this list. Lying over 50 miles northeast of Los Angeles, in the eastern Antelope Valley, is a community named Lake Los Angeles. Instead, the now-nonexistent lake is a remnant of the town’s manipulative speculative real estate history. Although Nephthys was the goddess of air, she was closely linked to death as both the sister and the wife of Seth, the god of disorder and violence. So, Verna could be the personification of death but there are hints the Faustian pact she strikes with the Usher siblings could make her the devil with the pair selling their legacy for wealth. Also, did it bother anyone else that they didn’t even ask Usher to be in this?

Famous Television and Movie Houses in Los Angeles

However, it can be surmised that Roderick's motivations may have been driven by personal gain, coercion, or a change of heart. Whatever the reason, this betrayal significantly impacts both Dupin and the trajectory of Roderick's life. One supernatural element of the story comes from Gugino’s character, Verna, which is an anagram for raven. Instead, she’s a shape-shifter who moves “in and out like smoke,” as Gugino described, and appears to each of the Usher heirs right before their gruesome deaths. Verna morphs into different characters in each episode, whether it’s a security guard or a homeless woman — or even an ape. Verna, it turns out, is The Raven personified (her name is even an anagram of “raven”).

What deal did Verna make with Roderick and Madeline, and why did it result in the entire Usher family dying?

who.is verna in the fall of the house of usher

They then forgot or ignored the deal for the next fifty years, choosing to concentrate on building their empire instead. As wealthy CEO Roderick Usher’s children start to die off one by one in the most horrific of manners, Roderick and Madeline investigate the potential killer, with the help of their relentless lawyer Arthur Pym. It soon becomes apparent that Verna is involved in all of these deaths, with her face being spotted at the scenes of each crime. As lines from Edgar Allen Poe's "The Raven," are read in the background, Verna visits the graves of each of the Usher family members and places a notable item related to each of their deaths on their respective tombstones.

Happy Days House

This pact underscores the central theme of the series, the consequences of one’s choices and the lengths some will go to for power and wealth. It serves as a chilling reminder that dealing with mysterious entities like Verna, always comes with a price. In ‘The Fall of the House of Usher,’ she wields some uniquely chilling abilities that set her apart.

In fact, "Verna" is just an anagram of "Raven." Though she's rarely not in human form, she does occasionally appear as a raven—especially in the first episode, when patriarch Roderick Usher realizes what he's done. Roderick and Madeline, possibly driven by ambition or the allure of the offer, accepted the deal. The immediate benefits were evident with their newfound wealth and influence. However, the weight of their decision became evident decades later. As their lives neared their end, Verna returned to claim her part of the bargain.

The secret to Verna’s identity lies in her name

She believes she can steer the company away from addictive drugs and into the realm of artificial intelligence and virtual immortality. However, Madeline is tormented by the death of her sister Tamerlane and her encounter with Verna.Madeline attempts to amend her agreement with Verna and even tries to kill her, but Verna proves to be indestructible. They discuss a mysterious contract that can only be fulfilled through death. Madeline convinces Roderick that the only way to fulfill the contract is for him to kill himself with a Ligodone overdose. However, as Madeline leaves, Verna awakens Roderick, preventing his escape from his fate.Meanwhile, Frederick, eager to become CEO, decides to proceed with demolishing the lab where Prospero held his party.

Many of the house's original interior features are still intact, including wainscoting in the foyer that is pressed paper made to look like embossed leather. The house is now part of the Heritage Square Museum in Montecito Heights. The Brothers & Sisters house is the home of Nora Walker (Sally Field) in the ABC series. It's located in a lovely Pasadena neighborhood at 1640 Lombardy Road, near the Langham Huntington Hotel. Brothers & Sisters premiered in 2006, a story about a California family who own the fictional Ojai Foods company.

Ha Yun-Sang: Goodbye Earth character explained

Over the years, Roderick and Madeline have built a sizeable estate, with the former’s kids set to inherit everything equally after the twins’ deaths. Nonetheless, a significant shift occurs when Prospero “Perry” Usher, the youngest of the lot, meets a gruesome end. Perry wants to prove his worth in the family and tries to make millions out of nothing by throwing a hedonistic orgy in an abandoned building. After a creepy encounter with an unnamed woman, Perry, and his guests die viciously after a mistake rains acid upon the entire room. Yet, Perry’s sister-in-law, Morelle, barely survives and is hospitalized at once.

Built in 1899 for the artist and socialite Sarah Posey, this fantastical home was bought only a year after Posey settled in by the legendary oil magnate EL Doheny and his wife Estelle. They are a testament to the wide variety of Victorian architectural styles, from the Far East- and past-obsessed Moorish Revival and Richardson Romanesque to the Arts and Crafts-inspired Foursquare and Eastlake movements. There are also several brilliant examples of exuberant Queen Anne-style houses. It was during the Victorian era, from 1837 to 1901, that Los Angeles transformed from a small, dusty Mexican outpost into a Gilded Age American boom town.

who.is verna in the fall of the house of usher

Verna's actions, and her various monologues to the Ushers immediately before they each die, also underscore that she's only targeting people in accordance with what she "must" do. She introduces herself to Roderick's youngest son, Prospero, at his masquerade party/orgy as "consequence." In cast quotes provided by Netflix, Gugino described Verna as "the executor of fate or the executor of karma." Importantly, Verna isn't an indiscriminate killer or monster who attacks people just for the fun of it.

Verna offered Roderick and Madeline Usher their wildest dreams along with total, lifelong legal immunity, but that meant their bloodline would all die right before they both did. She also offered to keep Arthur Pym out of jail if he offered collateral as leverage. Interestingly, on The Fall of the House of Usher Verna knows the lives people would have led had they not accepted her offer. They toast to each other, and after they both drink, Madeline realizes that Roderick has poisoned her. They take their last breath as their childhood home falls on them. Verna then appears on top of the house wearing a black lace dress.

She knew everything about everyone and seemingly witnessed some important events in people’s lives. She was keeping careful tabs on all Usher family members, as far as 40 years in the back. It doesn’t surprise us that the Devil, or a messenger of the Devil in this case, has both immortality and omnipresence. She was always aware of where the Ushers were and what they were doing at the moment.

It's also a story about the opioid epidemic, centered on karmic retribution against the family dynasty behind the fictional Fortunato Pharmaceutical company. But it's also an intricate web of Edgar Allan Poe references, from the character names, to the nature of their deaths. The show Charmed is set in San Francisco which has plenty of great Victorian-style houses, but the house is actually in Los Angeles. The home of the Halliwell family in the television series is located at 1329 Carroll, near Dodger Stadium in a neighborhood of similar houses. According to the series, the Charmed house was built in 1898, which may be close, according to a historic plaque mounted across the street. Verna – whose name is an anagram of “Raven,” indicating either a reference to Edgar Allen Poe’s iconic harbinger of death, or to the gothic 19th-century author’s love of Teen Titans Go!

The two of them, as well as their children, will have everything that they want, but when they die, their bloodline will die with them. As soon as they left the bar where they met Verna, it vanished. Furthermore, all the Usher deaths seem to be accidental, which makes it hard for Roderick to believe that someone can have a hand in them. The night Roderick and Madeline murder Rufus Griswold, they go to a bar and meet a woman named Verna. The woman knows everything about them and offers to make a deal with them, and the Usher twins agree to it. Mike Flanagan’s Netflix horror–drama show ‘The Fall of the House of Usher’ delves into several motifs and themes of Edgar Allen Poe’s works through the lens of an elite, wealthy family.

In an unexpected turn of events, Verna ensures Frederick's demise by lacing his cocaine with a paralyzing drug. As Frederick unknowingly ingests the tainted cocaine, he ventures to the demolition site of a lab, but the effects of the drug take hold, causing him to collapse. However, there are hints that Lenore may have become involved in Madeline's experiments with AI and immortality. As Roderick converses with Dupin, Madeline is tinkering in the basement, potentially transforming Lenore into something beyond human existence. In light of these events, it is unclear why Roderick ultimately betrayed Dupin in court.

She shapeshifts, and knows everything, always letting the Usher children know exactly what the universe needs them to know before their time is up. And who but Death could refuse death, like when Verna wouldn’t let Roderick die. Meanwhile, Verna can chose the nature of someone’s final moment. She can make their demise simple and pain free, ushering the dead across with a gentle and loving hand. Even when she does the latter, she offers words of wisdom, like with Freddie.

Who is Verna, Carla Gugino's character in 'Fall of the House of Usher?'

Therefore, she had three years of difficult and slow withdrawal process when she wanted to come off the drug. Verna enjoys watching humans selfishly gorge on their ambitions while actively putting the rest of humanity at harm. She seems to crave the knowledge of how far a person’s hubris is willing to take them. As a result, she has worked with numerous names throughout history and watched them destroy the world and its residents for their own benefit.

The character seems to have a duality, bringing Roderick and his sister Madeline (Mary McDonnell) luck but the price is death. There are many hints about who Verna really is and her true identity - she even makes throwaway comments about her “job” and suggesting she is not human and is clearly immortal as she never ages or can be killed. It’s important to note that Verna doesn’t seem to do this for personal reasons. She gets a jolt out of punishing bad guys, but she’ll still snuff out someone nice, as we see when she sends good old Lenore to her eternal naptime. Swatting folks out of existence is her job, not her hobby, and while she might enjoy parts of it, she mostly goes where the work takes her. In contemporary terms, she’s Uber for death by poetic irony.

You Can Still Die From World War I Dangers in France's Red Zones

Flanagan doesn't directly adapt Poe's work here, but he borrows widely from it and puts his own twist on things. One of his most clever references is the character Verna, played by Carla Gugino. Verna is the most enigmatic character in "Usher," and her true nature is never spelled out for viewers.

In this case, you do have to walk to the gate in order to see the house. One fateful New Year’s Eve in 1980, Roderick and Madeline Usher found themselves in a bar, unknowingly on the brink of a decision that would shape their family’s destiny for generations. Behind that bar was Verna, serving drinks and, as it turned out, offering deals that were too tempting to resist. With Verna on their side, the Ushers rose to run Fortunato Pharmaceuticals where they developed the drug Ligodone that has infiltrated the world to such a degree, it’s reminiscent of today’s opioid crisis. All of Roderick’s children, including the illegitimate ones, have enjoyed a life of luxury and no responsibility—a gilded life, you could argue—and the company has seen no legal repercussions, just as Verna promised. Verna knows the past and the future of every character in the show.

Greatest Works of Edgar Allan Poe (Deluxe Hardbound Edition)

She also kills Camille L’Espanaye by transforming from a security guard at her half-sister Victorine's research lab into a murderous chimpanzee. The show’s writers hint at Verna’s history and her true identity throughout the series. Arthur finds photographs of Verna that date back to the start of the 1900s. She is seen interacting with wealthy, influential people throughout history. Clearly, Verna has made many more deals in her past, shaping the planet, feeding man’s greed, and punishing the sinners in the process, which feels very much like the devil’s work to me. Verna’s identity is important to the series for a couple of reasons.

In Poe’s famous poem, the black bird is largely understood to represent death and loneliness, and Verna’s appearance at the end of all of the Usher kids' lives is the kiss of death. “The Raven” (season 1, episode 8) reveals that Roderick and Madeline made a deal with Verna/The Raven many years ago that traded their bloodline’s lives for success and riches during their lifetime. Throughout the limited series’ eight episodes, in which Roderick Usher’s (Bruce Greenwood) entire bloodline mysteriously dies one by one, a peculiar figure named Verna (Carla Gugino) hovers at each death. She’s a security guard, a potential patient, an employee at a pet adoption clinic, and more—shapeshifting as needed to drive each of Roderick’s kids into madness and their eventual death. As Roderick, his twin sister Madeline (Mary McDonnell), and their lawyer-slash-fixer Arthur Pym (Mark Hamill) investigate who she might be, they find her undoctored image throughout history. As one of the two surviving members of the Usher family in “The Fall of the House of Usher,” Roderick is one of Poe’s character doubles, or doppelgangers.

After the murder, they go to a nearby bar so they can have an alibi, and Verna serves them. Of course, this raises a lot of questions about this otherworldly character and her role in controlling the fate of the Usher family. At the end of the show, with Roderick and Madeline dead in their childhood home, Verna appears atop the house wearing a black lace dress and then transforms into a raven before flying away. That night, she posed as a bartender who served Roderick and Madeline hours after they killed Roderick's boss.

And the same holds true for ‘The Fall of the House of Usher.’ Believe it or not, Verna told Madeline and Roderic exactly what she was the first time they met 40-something years ago. And within moments, the Usher home was a pile of wood and rocks on a lot, as Dupin, barely able to process what he had just witnessed, looked on. That left only two Ushers—the ones who entered the world together, and had to go out as well. While Madeline tried to skirt the system by having Roderick overdose on his own Fortunato meds, Verna wasn't letting that happen. And so Roderick invited Madeline over to their childhood home, where their mother once died (and rose again, only to strangle a man to death before finally dying herself), to share a drink. Madeline, without children of her own, didn't have to think much. And while Roderick should have thought of it more, he didn't.

Verna looms large for Tamerlane, She ultimately destroys every mirror she sees; shards of glass fatally pierce her body. Even as the family awakens to Verna's presence, the woman doesn't stop wrecking havoc on the family. She agrees to be the first patient for a human trial for Victorine's cardiac medical device, which definitely isn't ready to hit the market.

She decides what would be a fitting death for each character. It is almost like Verna, whose name is an anagram of the word raven, is death. When Arthur is sent to kill Verna, he realizes that she is not a human being, so she cannot be killed. She will ensure that Camille’s file on Arthur is never found in exchange for something that he loves, but Arthur refuses to make a deal with her.

While the others all brought their demise upon themselves, Lenore was an innocent, the only good Usher. And so we learn of the horrific ways each of his children would go on to die, whether through an ape attack, melting in an acid shower or even by impaling their own "tell-tale" heart. After seven episodes of death and suffering and hilariously cruel one-liners, The House of Usher has finally fallen. Roderick Usher is the last man standing — or sitting, should we say? It seems like each of these business magnates and politicians got where they are today not through hard work or even luck, but through literal dealings with the devil. In Episode 8, “The Raven,” we finally get a glimpse of just what the connection between Roderick and Verna truly is.

EdrawMax offers Web, Desktop, and Mobile versions, making sure you can use all the features and templates in every scenario. Lucidchart is perfect for creating beautiful network diagrams, from Cisco to AWS, GCP, and Azure. Just drag and drop the shapes you need onto the canvas to get started. One of the first things you should do before setting up a complex network is create a network diagram so you’ll know how everything will work together.

Mesh topology

Like network diagrams, network topologies can describe either the physical or logical aspects of a network. A logical network diagram illustrates the flow of information through a network and shows how devices communicate with each other. It typically includes elements like subnets, network objects, and devices, routing protocols and domains, voice gateways, traffic flow, and network segments. Lucidchart helps teams collaborate in real time from anywhere in the world. Enhance productivity while working with your team to achieve your goals. Visualize LAN, VLAN or WAN networks, SNMP or ICMP diagrams, DIA networks and more with a network topology map created with Visme.

In the left column of the screen, you’ll notice a plethora of computer-related icons. You can choose from our options, standard icons, Cisco (basic and extended), network, electronics, audio equipment, and Bing images. There are a lot of options, so you may want to enter the name of the network device you’re looking for in the search box at the top of the left column. When you see one you like, click on it and drag it to the screen. Enhance your diagramming workflow with expert templates, an easy-to-navigate interface, and extensive platform and export format support. Customize the color and style of the shapes to create a balanced visual flow.

Can I customize the network diagram templates in Visme?

All you need is select a diagram template for your use, then drag and drop industry-specific icons and shapes to complete your diagram. Start by naming all the elements on the diagram and then change the font and size of text when naming peripherals versus backend components. Try using different colors for the lines that symbolize connections. When the network diagram is complete, you should be able to save and print it. If you used an online tool, you’ll also be able to share it via a link (or other format) and even invite others to work on it as well. Design network diagrams easily and quickly with Visme’s professionally designed templates.

Practical Life is the study of self-help skills and focuses on the four major areas, Care of Self, Care of Environment, Grace and Courtesy, and Movement. Of course, every healthy person can see, hear, smell, taste, and touch items in their environment. She can see and hold in her hands the difference between one, ten, one hundred, and one thousand. The idea is real to her and she can build on it in increasingly complex ways. Indirectly, many of the materials also provide a foundation for advanced math, geometry, and scientific concepts. The curriculum in a Children’s House, the 3-year Montessori preschool through kindergarten program, is distinctive.

Math

At Children’s House, the emotional, intellectual, physical, social, and spiritual aspects of your child’s growth are all of equal importance. In this spirit, we invite children to take part in a unique educational opportunity in an environment prepared especially for their needs and interests. With its emphasis on vocabulary and organizing information into a detailed system of knowledge, the Cultural curriculum sets the stage for more advanced learning in elementary. The child begins to transition to more abstract learning and finds an outlet for his growing desire to make sense of the world around him and the reasons behind things.

Whether it’s play dough, sand, or slime, the child loves to explore the world with her hands. Similarly, she loves to experience new sights, sounds, smells, and tastes. In a Montessori Children’s House, the child is provided with more than just one-off opportunities for sensory exploration. Rather, there is an expansive curriculum dedicated to educating the child’s senses. Absolutely – movement is a fundamental part of every day at Children’s House.

Welcome to Children’s House!

We are a small, family-oriented school with two classrooms and a beautiful natural playground. The third year of our Children’s House program, designed for 3- to 6-year-olds, is the capstone kindergarten year. Children who continue with Guidepost through Kindergarten are often well-ahead of their peers when they enter 1st grade. Our primary curriculum includes language, mathematics, geometry, geography, history, pre-history, botany, biology, music, and art. We welcome children from birth to 18 years across more than 130 locations globally. Additionally, we offer flexible homeschooling and virtual programs to accommodate diverse educational needs.

Ms. Arlene discovered Montessori through her oldest son, who attended a Montessori school from preschool through kindergarten. She spent many years volunteering in her children’s schools, and experienced, first-hand, the wonders of how a child learns through discovery and fun. She describes her experience at Children’s House as “life-changing” and looks forward to her weekly classes with the children. Amanda has over 20 years of experience working with children, including 8 years in the Montessori classroom, 5 years in traditional preschool classrooms,  and as an early elementary literacy tutor. Our goal is to foster relationships that connect our community and create a learning environment that ignites curiosity.

Cognia is a non-profit organization working in over 80 countries that provides quality assurance for schools, schools districts and education service providers. For more information about what your child will learn at the Children's House, please check out our Guidepost Montessori curriculum for children ages 3 to 6 years old. Children’s House Montessori School is now enrolling children from two through five years, and we look forward to exploring how our Montessori school can accommodate the needs of your family. We welcome and embrace diversity in a safe, supportive and inclusive environment. We help your child grow and develop through a peaceful, caring, and exploratory approach to learning. Being a teacher is more than taking care of children, but also learning more about yourself to impact others.

Children learn by doing, and the Montessori Method helps maximize potential by fostering rigorous, self-motivated learning in all areas of development—cognitive, emotional, social, and physical. Children work independently with specially designed learning materials; deeply engaged in their work. A Montessori education promotes the development of the whole child, facilitates the natural growth of self-discipline, and cultivates each child's inherent love of learning. We offer an authentic Montessori program, complete with math, language, practical life and sensorial materials.

While the Children's House and Kindergarten both strive to meet the needs of young children, the methods they use to meet those needs — and the resulting outcomes — are very different. The main difference is that the period of time a child spends at Kindergarten lasts one year — the child starts at around 5 years old and leaves when they turn 6. The Children’s House, on the other hand, spans a three-year cycle, welcoming children from about 2.5 years old and nurturing them during this key period of development until they reach about 6 years old. If you’re curious about Montessori learning and its set-up for young children, you’re in the right place.

The specific activity really depends on how the children are feeling and what they need that particular morning. After the morning routine, the teacher helps transition children into the work period, while making a snack available. The work period is a three-hour block of uninterrupted time, where the children will not be disturbed or called to participate in a group activity. After the work period, children will enjoy free play outside and then eat lunch.

Welcome to Children’s House Montessori, a garden of child culture, where our focus is to develop and nurture a child’s intrinsic love of learning, discovery, independence and sense of community. We view each child like a little seed; full of potential and waiting for the proper nourishment that our well-prepared environment provides. Our stimulating, organized classrooms, complete with a wide variety of beautiful hands-on Montessori materials, invite each child to explore their true interests, and become the person they are meant to be.

Many of the materials in the sensorial curriculum provide an intuitive basis for math concepts. The child uses the red rods, for example, arranging them progressively from shortest to longest and viscerally experiences that the second rod is twice the length of the first, the third is three times longer and so on. When she later uses the number rods and labels them from 1 to 10, she has built a solid intuition to understand the new concept. In conventional education, language and literacy curriculum is typically reserved for kindergarten and above. Though you may be able to read a book to a younger child or teach him the alphabet song, more advanced skills seemingly have to wait. By the time children arrive at Children’s House, we expect students to have begun their toilet learning.

The final area of the Children’s House curriculum is Cultural Studies. In this area, the child studies things like botany, geography, history, art, and music. The materials for this area of the curriculum are integrated with other areas of the classroom. At Guidepost Montessori, our first priority is to make your child feel safe and secure. We are uncompromisingly committed to exceptionally safe, nurturing learning environments for all of our children, parents, and staff.

Schedule a Tour

In conventional education, she would have to wait until 3rd grade to have access to these concepts. But because of the careful, hands-on approach, the child is guided from concrete to abstract knowledge at her own pace and in a way that feels grounded and intuitive. A major focus of the Montessori math curriculum is enabling the child to have access to abstract concepts at a concrete level she can understand.

If you already have one child enrolled at our school and would like to enroll their sibling, you will gain higher waitlist priority when you pay the pre-registration fee. Every child is a unique individual, and will learn different things at different rates. When a child excels in a particular area, such as mathematics, we challenge them to explore it even further. If a child is struggling with a certain topic, such as language, we give them extra lessons and support in order to help them achieve all the milestones we would expect their age group to conquer. The Children’s House is an independent, co-educational Christian School with a Montessori approach, serving students from Preschool to Sixth Grade located in upper Pearl City.

The Montessori method of education is based on self-directed activity, hands-on learning and collaborative play. In Montessori classrooms children make creative choices in their learning, while the classroom and the highly trained teacher offer age-appropriate activities to guide the process. Our school offers four programs based upon age and educational needs — toddler, primary, kindergarten, and elementary — serving children ages 18 months to 9 years. At Guidepost, we want to make the best education the best for children and parents. This is why we provide year-round, extended-day programming at no extra cost, enabling consistent and uninterrupted access to the care and developmental support parents expect.

Math continues the cognitive math development that began in the Practical Life Skills and Sensorial curriculum, taking an acute focus and more abstract thinking process with concrete materials. Children are encouraged to learn by processing information gathered through the senses. In a Montessori Children’s House, the environment is prepared so that a child has access to the tools and guidance he needs to achieve success.

Our school fosters curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking while preparing every child to be a thoughtful, independent, and compassionate global citizen. Ms. Shoruk has worked with children since 2012, as a teaching assistant, after school program director, a nanny and a tutor. She begins her day in the Sunset Room and ends her day supervising the after school program. Keturah’s career in early childhood education spans more than 45 years. She has served as a field consultant for interns taking their Montessori training, has been in the Montessori classroom for more than 30 years, and has worked in a “traditional” preschool setting for several years as well. Our wooded playground provides endless opportunities for outdoor enjoyment and our authentic Montessori program guarantees that your child will be part of a thriving, mixed-age classroom.

We invite you into your child’s world—with daily photo and video updates, regular milestone meetings, and parent-child events that showcase your child’s progress. We work to understand your unique context and needs, so that we can provide support for milestones at home as well as at school. Similar to language and literacy, hands-on multisensory materials give a young child access to a math curriculum far younger than her peers, and empowers her to reach advanced concepts by the end of kindergarten year. Playtime integrates seamlessly with classroom learning experience, as students test out social skills, form friendships andcreate their own concoctions with the ‘mud kitchens’.
