The final area of the Children’s House curriculum is Cultural Studies. In this area, the child studies things like botany, geography, history, art, and music. In conventional education, she would have to wait until 3rd grade to have access to these concepts. Our landlord, the Unitarian Universalist Church in Reston, uses our space for Sunday school classes and other weekend events, and we can not control what foods are brought in during that time. If your child has food allergies, please talk to us about their needs during your tour. We are closed periodically for holidays and seasonal breaks and operate a 6 week summer program for enrolled students. We have several family events during the year, such as a picnic, Thanksgiving pot-luck, and Parent Day, as well as Parent Education events sprinkled throughout. Children’s House Montessori School of Reston is just minutes from the Reston-Wiehle Metro station. We offer parents a small, family-centered community and a convenient commuter location. Although we are located in the lower level of the Unitarian Universalist Church in Reston, we are not affiliated with the church.

She worked for 3 years as an administrative assistant at World Wildlife Fund and 8 years as a Montessori Assistant Teacher at Montessori Country School in Herndon, VA, leading her to love the Montessori philosophy. Ms. Ananya loves cooking, knitting, gardening, walking and a lot of family time. The teachers are kind and supportive to each child, truly encouraging each to their strengths.
If you already have one child enrolled at our school and would like to enroll their sibling, you will gain higher waitlist priority when you pay the pre-registration fee. Every child is a unique individual, and will learn different things at different rates. When a child excels in a particular area, such as mathematics, we challenge them to explore it even further. If a child is struggling with a certain topic, such as language, we give them extra lessons and support in order to help them achieve all the milestones we would expect their age group to conquer. The Children’s House is an independent, co-educational Christian School with a Montessori approach, serving students from Preschool to Sixth Grade located in upper Pearl City.
The Montessori method of education is based on self-directed activity, hands-on learning and collaborative play. Math continues the cognitive math development that began in the Practical Life Skills and Sensorial curriculum, taking an acute focus and more abstract thinking process with concrete materials. Ms. Shoruk has worked with children since 2012, as a teaching assistant, after school program director, a nanny and a tutor. She begins her day in the Sunset Room and ends her day supervising the after school program. Keturah’s career in early childhood education spans more than 45 years. She has served as a field consultant for interns taking their Montessori training, has been in the Montessori classroom for more than 30 years, and has worked in a “traditional” preschool setting for several years as well. Our wooded playground provides endless opportunities for outdoor enjoyment and our authentic Montessori program guarantees that your child will be part of a thriving, mixed-age classroom.
We invite you into your child’s world—with daily photo and video updates, regular milestone meetings, and parent-child events that showcase your child’s progress. We work to understand your unique context and needs, so that we can provide support for milestones at home as well as at school. Similar to language and literacy, hands-on multisensory materials give a young child access to a math curriculum far younger than her peers, and empowers her to reach advanced concepts by the end of kindergarten year. Playtime integrates seamlessly with classroom learning experience, as students test out social skills, form friendships andcreate their own concoctions with the ‘mud kitchens’.
